Recent paintings by Zuza ZOCHOWSKI - in the BVRG Project Space
16 February – 30 March 2019
Official opening 15 February at 6pm
Zochowski’s works explore methods in translating her local Illawarra landscape in both collage and painting. Beginning with working plein air, Zochowski creates paintings in watercolour staining the paper with loose yet deliberate brush strokes in order to capture the immediate aspects within the landscape. Familiar shapes, colour and tones are created in observation of fences, houses, hedges or shadows to define a time of day, yet left slightly ambiguous to leave space for the imagination. Taking the plein air paintings into her studio, Zochowski then modifies the watercolours by cutting, pasting and adding form and colour informed by memory to create a transformation of the original image.
