Free art and dementia training workshop in Bega

A two-day training workshop for arts and health professionals as part of the National Gallery of Australia’s Art and Dementia Outreach Program.

Looking at and talking about works of art provides opportunities for people living with dementia to connect with the world in enriching and life-enhancing ways. A guided visit to a gallery promotes social inclusion in an intellectually stimulating environment for people who may be isolated and lack opportunities for meaningful activities.

The workshop will develop specialised communication skills and will also include an introduction to understanding life with dementia by a dementia care professional. Learn skills to facilitate guided tours of works of art for people living with dementia. Begin the process of implementing a sustainable program in the Bega Valley area.

A discussion-based tour of works of art provides intellectual stimulation and social inclusion. Participants are able to contribute knowledge, engage in interpretation, express emotions and recall memories. Participation can lead to an increase in wellbeing and quality of life.

Presented by BVRG, in partnership with South East Arts through their SWELL arts and health initiative and the National Gallery of Australia.
